Former Harrisburg House Rep. Ron Buxton Has Died

At the age of 72, former state Rep. Ron Buxton has died.

Buxton passed Friday evening following a prolonged battle with COPD (lung disease).

Originally from Steelton, where he was born and raised by the late Robert I. and Betty Jane (Donmoyer) Buxton, Ron grew-up to work and serve central Pa. for the rest of his life.

He graduated from Susquehanna Township High School in 1967 and went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Harrisburg Area Community College in 1971.

He soon became a Susquehanna Township Commissioner, serving as President of the Board for two years.

Then he worked as Deputy Director of Community Development for the City of Harrisburg.

He spent the next 20 years, 1992-2012, serving Harrisburg as Democratic rep. for the 103rd District to the PA House-- a consecutive 10 terms in office. 

While in the House he was a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, served on the Capitol Preservation Committee, and was the Majority Caucus Administrator his last two terms in office.

After he left office, he served as a member of the Dauphin County Redevelopment Authority until 2015.

He is survived by his two sons, Ryan I. Buxton and wife, Pamela of New Cumberland; Eric R. Buxton of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Raegan, Rhys, Eyan and Carter; and a great-grandson, Parker.

He was predeceased by his brother, Philip Buxton and both of his parents.

His public visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 1-4 p.m. at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home located at 2100 Linglestown Road in Harrisburg.
